D&D historian Ben Riggs has a duplicate of Ed Greenwood’s authentic Forgotten Realms contract and spends a couple of phrases overlaying it, calling it “The greatest $5,000 D&D Spent”. The setting was bought to TSR for $4,000 in 1987, with one other $1,000 for comsulting companies.

Ed Greenwood, the creator of the Realms, mentioned he by no means regretted the choice to promote the property to TSR, the primary firm to make D&D. The 5 grand he made was $4,000 for the Realms itself, after which $1,000 for companies as a design advisor. (That’s $13,000 in 2022 {dollars}).
