Bernie Stolar has sadly handed away on the age of 75. The information of the previous Sega of America president’s passing broke over the previous couple of days, and we thought it solely proper to say it right here on a Dreamcast-centric weblog. Stolar was president of Sega of America from 1996 to 1999 and famously sat within the hotseat in the course of the Dreamcast’s adolescence, earlier than leaving the position to make approach for Peter Moore.
Prior to working at Sega, Stolar was instrumental within the creation of Sony Computer Entertainment America, and later he labored for toy large Mattel after which later gaming service ZOOM Platform alongside pal of the Junkyard Jordan Freeman (pictured beneath).
We have been fortunate sufficient to welcome Bernie to the Dreamcast Junkyard again in 2018 when he agreed to reply a few of our questions about his time at Sega of America, the Dreamcast and – most significantly – his favorite Dreamcast video games. Mentioning that Rush 2049 was certainly one of his favorite video games gave me an enormous sense of vindication, waxing lyrical as I do about it being one of many best video games on the Dreamcast – if the previous president of Sega of America and father of the Dreamcast agreed, that is adequate for me!
The unhappy information of Bernie Stolar’s passing comes mere weeks after the information of former Managing Director Hidekazu Yukawa‘s demise in 2021, and this marks a really poignant time for followers of the Dreamcast.
Our ideas and greatest needs go to Bernie’s associates, household and colleagues.
