That second we’ve been ready for has lastly come – Wolverine is in Deadpool 3. Confirmed by Ryan Reynolds.
He dropped the information on Twitter, which was reposted on Jackman’s Instagram.
“Hey everyone, we’re extremely sad to have missed D23, but we’ve been working very hard on the next ‘Deadpool’ film for a good long while now. I’ve had to really search my soul on this one. His first appearance in the MCU obviously needs to feel special. We need to stay true to the character, find new depth, motivation, meaning. Every ‘Deadpool’ needs to stand out and stand apart. It’s been an incredible challenge that has forced me to reach down deep inside. And I…I have nothing. Yeah, just completely empty up here. And terrifying. But we did have one idea.”
The final time X-Men followers noticed Jackman as Wolverine was in 2016’s R-rated Logan directed by James Mangold. Looks like we’ll be seeing him once more on September sixth, 2024.
Deadpool 3 has been mothballed since 2018 due to Disney’s buy of Fox. Free Guy‘s Shawn Levy is directing Deadpool. He came up through kids’ TV and the Night At The Museum films, so this can be a bit tamer than Tim Miller and David Leitch’s takes on the character. Though with Reynolds within the swimsuit and now the friendship between him and Jackman coming to the display, I’m a bit much less anxious about that.
Will they be mates? Enemies? Frenemies? We’ll learn the way all of it comes collectively in 2024.
