War is a style as outdated as the flicks themselves. Some provide visceral thrills, attempting to immerse you in what it means to be in battle. Others take a special tack, and are extra contemplative about their subject material.

Whatever highway they take, although, nice struggle films are at all times at the very least just a little bit about how pointless struggle is. That self-reflexive gaze, which blends the valor of struggle with its violence and horror, is what makes these films worthy of this listing, whether or not they’re thrilling, humorous, horrific, or just a little little bit of all three.
