Scenario

There are 3 gamers in an EDH match, gamers A, B, and C. Player A casts Modify Memory, concentrating on creatures managed by B and C and it resolves, so B and C management creatures from the opposite participant. On the subsequent flip, B assaults and kills A.

Question

Does the impact of Modify Memory persist now that A (the caster of the spell) has left the sport?

My Interpretation

After studying the foundations, I consider that the impact does persist. The guidelines state that when a participant leaves the sport, something managed by that participant is both returned its proprietor or ceases to exist. Since participant A would not management both of the swapped creatures, there’s nothing for them to return to its proprietor. Also, since Modify Memory has already resolved, there is no spell on the stack to take away from the sport. Finally, since it is not a everlasting it would not behave like an enchantment the place its impact is eliminated as soon as the controlling participant leaves the sport.

Appendix

Modify Memory card textual content:

Sorcery

Exchange management of two goal creatures managed by completely different gamers. If you management neither creature, draw three playing cards.

Rule for when a participant leaves the sport:

800.4a When a participant leaves the sport, all objects (see rule 109) owned by that participant depart the sport and any results which give that participant management of any objects or gamers finish. Then, if that participant managed any objects on the stack not represented by playing cards, these objects stop to exist. Then, if there are any objects nonetheless managed by that participant, these objects are exiled. This is just not a state-based motion. It occurs as quickly because the participant leaves the sport. If the participant who left the sport had precedence on the time they left, precedence passes to the subsequent participant in flip order who’s nonetheless within the recreation.
