Construction and Consultation

Summary: In which the “Hall of Lost Things” continues to be constructed; a couple of modifications and one new function are prompted by that course of; a brand new ship-skin is added; and a session helps.

Greetings and salutations!

This week’s screenshot exhibits but extra work on the “Hall of Lost Things” throughout the Vertical Slice Moon:

The work of the week simply previous was as soon as once more primarily given to the constructing of mentioned stage:

Indeed, the construction of the extent is now, I feel, just about achieved: from the begin to the end, and with at the very least one hidden place, all rooms at present supposed are actually in place, I consider.

What’s extra, a little bit of decor has been added (and certainly, one ingredient of it included into the Tutorial Moon, too).

Still, the work is not fairly full: there’s at the very least one challenge that I but need to repair, and some components which are but incomplete.

But it is shut, I do suppose!

And alongside the way in which varied modifications have been made that have been prompted by the work on the extent:

First, Aethereal objects might now management the fading of sure components indirectly connected to them. This permits a bit extra flexibility of their utilization.

Second, an enchancment was made to the mixing of room-covers: they now use the “max” operation. That is, when a brand new cowl is rendered, it is just proven the place its worth is increased than the worth of what’s already current. This incurs some restrictions, however permits for lots extra freedom when room-covers overlap different room-covers or room-edgings, I discover.

Third, I added a brand new sort of game-object: switches. These, in brief, present a comfort class for the toggling of doorways. (And what’s extra, they will run arbitrary scripts, too.) With this new ship-skin, there are actually three in complete supposed for the vertical slice (together with the baseline “brass” pores and skin):

And after all, there have been varied tweaks, fixes, and modifications that do not appear value detailing right here!

Now, within the week simply previous I used to be troubled by some uncertainties concerning my path ahead. There had been an opinion posted indicating that constructing a vertical slice forward of publisher-pitching was an unwise method, and a dialogue of points with publishers, and maybe different issues in addition to that had me involved. Between these, as I recall, I did not understand how viable it was to proceed improvement, or, if that’s the case, go about it.

So, to handle these uncertainties, I booked a session with Rami Ismail (@tha_rami on Twitter)–a developer who does a variety of work in supporting and informing indie devs, amongst which is an indie-consultation service.

And he proved very useful certainly! I discovered him to learn, insightful, and affected person, and together with his recommendation, really feel that I now have a greater thought of proceed on, and a bit extra confidence in doing so. ^_^
